Graphic artist, experimental animation filmmaker and the founder and artistic director of Countryside Animafest Cyprus, the official international animation film festival of Cyprus and the first of its kind in the country. Founded in 2002, the festival contributed significantly to the appreciation of the idea of decentralising the arts and has revitalised small rural communities, creating an interest in independent animation cinema in Cyprus among a very wide audience spectrum.
He is the director of the Hambis Municipal Printmaking Museum in Nicosia and curator and organiser of many educational programs, workshops, exhibition projects and programs on artistic animation film and printmaking. He has served as guest curator and member of the jury of several international festivals. His artistic work, film and posters have been presented and received awards in many international exhibitions and film festivals around the world.

OUTREACH & DEVELOPMENT: HAMBIS PRINTMAKING MUSEUM & SCHOOL
Hambis Printmaking Museum & School: Printmaking Workshops & development of Printmaking in Cyprus
Since 2008 Hambis Printmaking Museum & School has been organizing many workshops on different techniques and methods of printmaking, aiming to develop practical knowledge and appreciation of printmaking in the general public, among educators as well as among professionals. In this context he organized two specialized workshops for university students. At the same time, he organized many visits for his students at the Hambis Printmaking Museum with special guided tours. Every summer, from 2000 until today, he has been involved as one of the instructors in the printmaking workshops organized every August (free of charge) in different locations around Cyprus: through the years the workshops have traveled to many villages, cities and schools of Cyprus, promoting the decentralisation of the arts, with hundreds of people, young and old, participating in the printmaking workshops and developing a deep appreciation for this artform.

FILM FESTIVALS / MEDIA ORGANISATIONS:
Documentary and Animated Film Festival – Views of the World (NGO) Artistic Director / Producer / Founder (www.animafest.com.cy)
In 2002, in collaboration with the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival, Yang's Hadjiyiannis and the Hambis Printmaking School, he founded the Small Documentary Festival in the village of Plataniskia, the first of its kind in Cyprus. In 2006, he introduced Animated films in the festival for the first time in Cyprus and renamed it Countryside Documentary & Animated Film Festival – Views of the World.
In 2008 - 2012, in collaboration with the Nicosia Municipality and the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education and Culture, he inaugurated the Nicosia International Documentary Festival, where he held the dual position of artistic director and production coordinator. In the context of the festival and in collaboration with Media Desk Cyprus he invited acclaimed international guests from the Documentary industry to give talks and masterclasses aimed at professionals.
In 2012, Countryside Animafest Cyprus, the International animation film festival of Cyprus, by now focussing exclusively on independent animated film, inaugurated an international competition section with an international jury. In 2013 the festival established a Cyprus competition section, supporting and promoting the local community of filmmakers of animated film.
As audiences have grown significantly in recent years, the festival has moved to different locations to accommodate the large number of spectators. The festival draws a very diverse audience, from across the social spectrum and contributed decisively in the vision of cultural decentralization and the appreciation of independent animation in Cyprus.
Animafest Cyprus focuses on author films, promoting the work of independent artists, while aiming at audience development and education. It includes screenings, masterclasses, exhibitions, workshops and an Artist in Residence program. In addition to the above, in the context of Animafest Cyprus, Tsangaris organizes talks and academic events throughout the year, such as a series of lectures and screenings at the University of Nicosia, as well as the Cyprus Academic Forum, the first of its kind in Cyprus, with the participation of distinguished academics and professionals from Cyprus and abroad. The forum was organized between 2012 – 2016 at the Cyprus University of Technology in collaboration with Media Desk Cyprus, the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Cyprus University of Technology.
ASIFA (Association International du Film d’Animation)
UNESCO (ICFT) International Council for film Television and Audiovisual Communication
In May 2013 the ASIFA board (affiliated with UNESCO) approved the foundation of the new ASIFA chapter – ASIFA Cyprus, after the application by Yiorgos Tsangaris.
2013 he was elected member of the international board by the ASIFA board.
2020 he resigned from ASIFA.
INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATIONS
In his capacity as Artistic Director of Animafest Cyprus he established fruitful collaborations and partnerships with many international International film festivals and centers.

ADMINISTRATIVE WORK, PRODUCTION: MUSEUM
Hambis Municipal Museum of Printmaking
He coordinated the realisation of the Hambis Municipal Museum of Printmaking in Nicosia from 2014 to 2019. He coordinated the collaboration between the Municipality and the non-for-profit company ‘Hambis Museum and Printmaking School’. He coordinated (commissioned) both the Architect’s report and Museology report and collaborated in the development of the Museographic study and its realisation. Additionally, he was in charge of fundraising for the completion of the work, and oversaw the building work/renovation. He is currently serving as Artistic Director of the Museum.
